Continuing Education for Physical Therapy (7 Hours CE Credit)
CARES
® Dementia Basics & Advanced Care
™ is no longer approved for CE by the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy (FSBPT -
www.fsbpt.org). However, many Physical Therapists who have completed CARES report success in contacting their state licensing board and requesting continuing education credit for the training.
About the Course
One of the key elements in providing quality dementia care is to understand Alzheimer’s disease and dementia and how changes in the brain contribute to different behaviors and communication limitations. Staff members who understand both the symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease and the individual resident can make better decisions about the most effective ways to interact and provide care. CARES provides an innovative learning experience for direct care workers and other staff who care for those with Alzheimer's or other forms of dementia. The online course provides participants with a definition of dementia and its impact on a person’s ability to function. Special attention is paid to person-centered care, an introduction to dementia, the importance of understanding behavior as communication, making connections with the person, proper nutrition, pain recognition, minimizing falls, rethinking wandering, and restraints.
Who Should Enroll
This is a beginning to intermediate level course applicable for physical therapists who are new to the field of dementia care.
Training and Test Information
Participants must finish the entire 10-module CARES program, complete a program evaluation, and successfully pass the post-test before receiving their printable certificate.
A fee of $70.00/person ($10.00 per credit hour) is paid for each individual requesting CEU credit. In addition, you need to
